Build a Stand Together Team
on your campus.

Want to defend higher education on your campus? Start by building a Stand Together Team.

Our step-by-step toolkit will help you organize your team, pass a mutual defense resolution or statement if possible on your campus, build campus solidarity and power, and join a growing national movement.

Our Toolkit

Our toolkit offers a simple, flexible roadmap for launching a local faculty and staff organizing team, passing a mutual academic defense resolution, and forming the structures needed to protect your community.

Whether you’re just getting started or already organizing, these tools will help you:

  • Bring together a core team of faculty & staff as a Stand Together Team

  • Pass a Mutual Academic Defense Compact (MADC) resolution through your faculty governance body if your campus climate permits

  • Form an official Campus Task Force, including administrators, faculty, and staff, to implement mutual defense compacts if possible on your campus

  • Use your independent Stand Together Team to monitor the progress of the Campus Task Force, offer encouragement, create faculty and staff connections, and build movement power and energy on campus. If a MADC Campus Task Force cannot be created, focus on your Stand Together Team

  • Stay connected to a national movement fighting for the future of higher education

We recognize that not all members of our campus communities face the same risks. That’s why we recommend that tenured faculty who are U.S. citizens lead your Stand Together Team—and that you include other faculty and staff, based on their personal risk assessment. Stand Together for Higher Ed prioritizes the safety of our international community, non-tenured faculty, staff, students, and others who may be vulnerable under new or forthcoming federal and state policies.

The Stand Together for Higher Ed movement is rooted in solidarity, care,
and collective power.
Let’s get to work and protect both higher education and democracy.

Register your Stand Together Team

Now that you’ve organized your campus Stand Together Team, let us know you exist! Register your team using this form. One of the team leaders should register the team, and we will reach the team through this leader.

All team members, including the leader, please sign up for Stand Together for Higher Ed messages on the homepage of this website. We will add a map of campus teams, and we will be in touch with resources, proposed actions, and information about organizing meetings.

We’re eager to hear what’s happening on your campus. What’s working? Do you need some new ideas or help? How can Stand Together Teams on other campuses offer support? What are your ideas for making the Stand Together for Higher Ed movement successful?
